Story
My families lives changed forever in 2013. One of those things that happens to other people, happened to us.
My sister and best friend was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. Lindsay was young, beautiful, caring and kind. A beautiful soul. But most of all Lindsay was a mother to two young children.
But Cancer is indiscriminate; it does not discriminate based on wealth, status, lifestyle, or how healthy you are. It chooses beautiful souls too.
At that time I signed up to run half a marathon to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity in a desperate attempt to feel like I was trying to make a difference. Lindsay brought me a T-shirt saying ‘If you see me running, you should probably run too as something is chasing me!’ That about summed up my running ability (and still does!)
I never did run the half marathon as what I didn’t realise at the time is the impact that having someone in your life who is living with a terminal brain tumour has.
It will be 10 years in March 2027 since we lost her. Not a day passes where we don’t think about her. Whilst out running with my new found running buddies Jamie and Nick, I happened to mention that this is something I wanted to do ‘one day’. Three hours later they’d both signed up to the London Parks half marathon and were waiting for me to do the same (or giving me no choice!) I cannot thank them enough - I would probably never have done it on my own. In the words of Jamie ‘this one is for my sister’.
Donating to a brain tumour charity can make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families affected by this devastating illness. Around 5,500 to 5,600 people die from brain tumors each year. This translates to more than 100 people every week. Brain tumors are notably the biggest cancer killer of both children and adults under the age of 40 in the UK. Lindsay was 39 years old
Any amount will do and every amount helps. So please, help me, Nick and Jamie get to the finish line by sponsoring us for this wonderful charity that is so pertinent to me and sadly to many others. Hopefully some time in the future there will be a time whereby individuals and families do not have to go through the pain and heartbreak that mine has had to.
