Variety, the Children's Charity, is dedicated to improving the lives of children who are disabled or disadvantaged. Our practical support ensures that no matter their circumstances, every child has access to the equipment they need and the opportunities and experiences they deserve.

Story

We are Luiz and Martin, founder and director of Kronik Warrior UK CIC, a Community Interest Company delivering inclusive sport and wellbeing programmes built from lived experience, community need and a belief that movement should be accessible to everyone.

Through adaptive boxing, inclusive fitness and structured wellbeing sessions, we support mental health, confidence and resilience. Our work focuses on removing barriers for children, young people and adults living with disability, chronic illness, SEND and trauma. Everything we do is community led and impact driven.

This year, we are taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon together as part of Team Variety, the Children’s Charity.

Luiz will complete her first ever half marathon in her wheelchair, her first outdoor endurance challenge since recovering from severe cavitating pneumonia in November 2024. She was so unwell at the time that she missed receiving Variety’s Unsung Hero Award in person, recognising the impact of Kronik Warrior UK CIC’s inclusive work.

And as always, challenge accepted without hesitation from Martin, who will run the full 13.1 miles alongside her.

In 2023, we completed a joint endurance challenge to raise awareness of the mental health and suicide prevention benefits of adaptive boxing. That challenge reflected exactly what Kronik Warrior stands for: resilience, access and shared strength.

We both live with diagnosed PTSD and use structured sport and wellbeing as essential tools for managing our physical and mental health. Kronik Warrior is not just an organisation we run. It is something we live every day.

Funds raised through this challenge will directly support inclusive Variety Voices for Change sessions delivered in partnership with Kronik Warrior UK CIC. These sessions provide adaptive sport and wellbeing support for young people who may otherwise be excluded from mainstream opportunities.

This half marathon is not just about distance.

It represents recovery.

It represents inclusive sport.

It represents what happens when communities invest in access rather than limitation.

If you believe in accessible movement, inclusive wellbeing and giving young people the opportunity to build strength and confidence, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.
