Story
Hi, I’m Kya, and this October I’ll be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for Diabetes UK.
This charity means so much to me and my family. Our amazing stepdad was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just 9 years old and is dependent on insulin to survive.
In 2023, his health took a dramatic turn. After suffering a heart attack and severe complications with his legs, he tragically had to have one leg amputated.
After 4 months in hospital and 6 weeks in rehab, he’s now back home, learning to live life in a whole new way. His strength is incredible – but this journey has shown me just how serious diabetes can be.
We don’t know exactly what the future holds, and there are still concerns about his remaining leg. We’re holding onto hope – and that’s why I want to raise money for Diabetes UK.
They fund life-saving research, support families like mine, and work to prevent devastating complications. I hope no one with diabetes has to go through what my stepdad and our family have experienced.
If you’re able to donate – no matter how small – it would mean the world.
Thank you so much.
Kya xx
