Story
On May 31st, I will be attempting the Lake Districts Bob Graham Round. It will not be the first time I have tried...I have failed not once....but twice. Coming up short in 2020 and 2022.
Both times, I gave it my all, being out for 24hrs+ on each attempt. However, I was humbled and sent packing on my way.
So here I am....back for a final crack at it. Hard lessons have been learned... the only way is onwards!
I have decided to dedicate this attempt to Charlie Shaw, John Ireland, and Mary Wyburn. Three special people who have passed away in the last 12 months. All of whom were very close to me, and all had a big tie to the outdoors in their own way.
Charlie and John were both friends of my Dad's since I can remember. Both of them were characters in their own right. Mary was someone who gave a lot to the local community and loved the fells.
John was a sheep farmer....always toughing it to get his sheep sorted and fixing his vehicles to make sure he could look after his sheep... Local legend. He always had a wry grin when he found something funny, a real character.
Charlie was in the army for a long time and had a passion for mountaineering. He spent a long time as the leader of Kendal mountain rescue, in which he was well respected. He had a strong Yorkshire accent & his dry sense of humour and sharp whit were never far away....a humble, tough man.
Mary had a big heart and an iron will. She was like a second mother to my wife growing up and supported us massively over the years. She loved the mountains & didn't suffer fools.
This "Round" will be in honour of their memory. It will also be in support of Coniston Sports and Social Club.
Having moved to Coniston in the past 12 months, it has been astounding at how brilliant the community is. I was blown away by this year's firework display, which was held at the social club. So I have decided to do this in support of the club.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be massively appreciated and will have a huge impact on this local clubs ability to maintain and provide facilities and events.
Thank you! Keep an eye out for updates on social media.

All the best!
