Story
On 14th November 2026, Myself & Julie will be taking part in the Celtic FC Foundation Sleep Out in Glasgow in memory of my dad, John Harkins (Harky Bhoy)
On 18th October 2025, my world changed forever when my dad suddenly passed away. My Dad was a well-known face around Johnstone town centre. He had time for everyone, always stopped for a chat, always had a smile on his face and if you knew him, you'll know there was one thing he loved above almost everything else—Celtic. He truly lived and breathed the club.
When I heard about the Celtic FC Foundation Sleep Out, I knew it was something I wanted to do in his memory. It feels like a fitting way to honour the man he was while supporting people who are facing homelessness and hardship.
I know that one night sleeping outdoors won't come close to the challenges that many people experience every day, but I hope that by taking part I can raise awareness and funds for the incredible work the Celtic FC Foundation does to support those who need it most.
This event is also part of my own journey through grief. Since losing my dad, I've struggled with the thought of letting go of his belongings. My hope is that this challenge will give me the strength to donate his clothes & 40 pairs of trainers to the Celtic FC Foundation, where they can help someone who really needs them. Knowing that something of my dad's could bring warmth, comfort and dignity to another person would mean the world to me, and I believe it would have meant the world to him too.
If you knew my dad, or if you'd simply like to support a fantastic cause, I'd be so grateful for any donation, no matter the amount. Every pound raised will help the Celtic FC Foundation continue making a real difference, while helping me celebrate my dad's life in a way that reflects the kindness and generosity he showed to others.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting myself & Julie on this journey.
For Harky—a proud Celt, a familiar face in Johnstone, and a much-loved dad & papa who will never be forgotten. HAIL HAIL 🍀
