Lisa & Sophie's fundraiser for Edgware and Hendon Reform Synagogue

L Samuels is raising money for Edgware and Hendon Reform Synagogue

Step Up for Charity · 19 April 2026 ·

Edgware and Hendon Reform Synagogue (EHRS) is an inclusive, progressive Jewish community rooted in tradition and guided by compassion, care and shared responsibility. We aim to inspire Jewish life that is meaningful, relevant and supportive in today’s world, while remaining welcoming to people of all backgrounds, ages and levels of observance. EHRS serves as a vibrant community hub offering worship, learning, social connection and pastoral care. Our activities span the whole life cycle, including early years provision through our nursery, religious education and Bar/Bat Mitzvah programmes, youth clubs, holiday activities, uniformed groups, adult learning, social groups and a dedicated day centre for older members. These programmes foster lifelong learning, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging. Charitable care is at the heart of our work. We support individuals and families through times of need, offering practical assistance, pastoral support and opportunities for connection. In recent years, this has included online services, learning and social spaces, as well as community networks focused on wellbeing, mental health and practical help. EHRS is powered by a committed team of clergy, staff and hundreds of volunteers who work together to create a caring, purpose-driven community. Through our shared values, we seek to build a synagogue that nurtures individuals, strengthens relationships and contributes positively to the wider community.

Story

This walk is inspired my beautiful and inspirational friend Donna whose life was profoundly affected by the loss of her mother and, shortly afterwards, her own bowel cancer diagnosis.

This event is a way for Donna to give back and help others facing similar journeys and also for her to honour the memory of her mother. On 19 April 2026, our community will come together for the "Step Up for Charity" walk, offering both a one-mile and five-mile option that is open to all ages and abilities.

The purpose of this walk extends beyond just physical activity; it aims to raise awareness of colon cancer, encourage early detection, and break the stigma surrounding this disease.

All funds raised will directly support Edgware and Hendon Reform Synagogue and Chai Cancer Care (a charity that is close to my heart) helping them continue to provide care, comfort, and hope when it is needed most.

Please donate whatever you can. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Together, we can create a ripple effect of compassion and understanding within our community.
