Lacey-Rae's fundraiser for The Wave Project

Lacey-Rae Quilter is raising money for The Wave Project

The Wave Project Sponsored Inclusive Surfathon · 30 May 2025

On Friday 30th May 2025, The Wave Project are holding their first Sponsored Surfathon! From Croyde Beach, North Devon, a team will be surfing for 12 hours (8am-8pm) to raise funds for our Adaptive Surfing Programmes!

Story

Hi, I’m Lacey-Rae and I was born with a condition called Arthrogryposis Amyoplasia. Simply, this means I need a wheelchair and walking frame to support my mobility.

For three years now, I have been surfing with the Wave Project, Croyde. A highlight for me was competing in the Surf England Adaptive Surf Championships in 2023…I am hoping to compete again this year!

The Wave Project has supported me and so many others by enabling access, fun and enhancing skills in the ocean. Because of this, I would like to support the Wave Project by participating in, and fundraising for, their 12 hour adaptive surf event.

What the Wave Project have to say about this fundraising event:

The Wave Project are excited to announce our first Inclusive Surfathon! This is the first event of its kind in England and allows us to continue to ensure that the ocean is accessible for everyone.

Our Wave Project Team and Adaptive Lead, Ian, have been on a mission to help as many people as possible enjoy the benefits of surfing. As the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year’s Unsung Hero for the South West, Ian is full of enthusiasm to keep raising funds for Adaptive surfing.

This event has been set-up to involve Adaptive surfers and non-disabled surfers; coming together for a Surfathon. This is a celebration of how far The Wave Project has come and how communities can work together.

Croyde has seen the ripples of Adaptive surfing grow, with new Wave Project hubs now set-up across the country. The Surfathon will showcase the equipment; from styles of adaptive boards to bespoke wetsuits. We hope to raise vital funds, awareness and make sure there plenty of fun for all!
