Story
Never turning down a chance to do a physical challenge, we have found ourselves signing up to a 24 hour relay swim. The excuse was a finial celebration for Guzzie and Jamie's wedding, and somehow that was enough to convince Will and Pop to join in.
The challenge: Our team of 4 has to swim for 24 hours, starting at midday on the 20th September, and ending at midday on the 21st! The venue is Lake 32, just outside Bristol, where a 400m loop will have been set up for us to swim around repeatedly. Between the four of us, there will always be someone in the water, hopefully just for an hour at a time. By the end of the challenge, we will have done 6hrs each on potentially zero sleep. We will set up camp around the lake with our fellow swimmers, and spend the hours off cooking pasta and making hot water bottles to get our body temperature back up!
We have had a 6 week lead time to get training, and a huge part of our motivation is knowing we are doing this for a good cause! Suddenly finding ourselves in the pool 4 times a week has been hard; swimming twice on a Sunday evening feels even harder. But everything will be worth it for the joy of the event and knowing we are making money for an excellent cause.
The money raised will go to Level Water, a charity that provides 1-to-1 swimming lessons for children with disabilities who might not otherwise learn to swim. Every child should experience the joy of being in the water, and Level Water's mission is for all children to be able to access the pleasure of swimming. Every £15 funds a life-changing lesson. Please donate what you can!
