From the 23rd - 24th May 2026, Ben and Harvey will be hiking “The Lakes 3000” in memory of our dear friend, Joe Grice, while raising money and spreading awareness for SHOUT, a mental health support charity.
Joe was an adventurous, caring and courageous man whom truly loved the outdoors. Whether it was bouldering, bodybuilding, swimming or sailing, he was always searching for the next challenge. Since meeting Joe bouldering in 2023, he has brought out a more adventurous side to both of us. His passion for the outdoors and hiking has had a lasting impression on our lives, and because of him, we now dedicate serious time to the sport.
Despite being an excellent hiker, one challenge that has gotten the better of Joe on two occasions is The Lakes 3000. He first attempted it with his brother Ben and sister Lauren, then later attempted it solo. For the past two years, Joe regularly asked us to join him on this trek, but because of its difficulty, we never felt physically capable of taking it on. Following Joe’s passing in October 2025, we have made the decision to complete this challenge in his memory. We only wish we had done it with him.
The Lakes 3000 is a 78.14km route, consisting of 4,452m elevation gain traversing over all of the 3000ft peaks in the lake district. This route will be carried out over two days (40km per day) with wild camping overnight. The peaks to conquer are: Scafell Pike, Skiddaw, Raise and Sca Fell. Alongside us will be Joe’s close friends, as well as his brother and sister. You can view our custom route here:
While men’s mental health is more widely discussed today, too often the signs of someone struggling still go unnoticed. At the same time, many of us find it difficult to reach out – whether to loved ones or professionals – when we need help most. Joe wasn’t fully aware of the support around him, and he wasn’t someone who found it easy to speak about what he was going through. That is why we want to support a charity working to change that.
Shout 85258 is a free, confidential 24/7 text messaging service in the UK that provides immediate support for people experiencing mental health challenges or emotional distress. It connects users with trained volunteers who offer a listening ear and help them work through difficult moments safely and anonymously. All donations will go towards helping SHOUT continue their vital work – supporting those in need and raising awareness of the help available.
We would love for you to support our journey on this outright ridiculous challenge, we will post regular updates to this JustGiving page, and our respective social medias.
Joe, we are so sorry you are no longer here with us. You will never be forgotten, and your spirit for adventure will live on through us.
Ben & Harvey.
