Roses 2023

For Roses 2023, we are Shining a Light on Sexual Violence in Sport, and are fundraising for Survive. Survive is a York-based charity that supports survivors of sexual trauma and provides them with the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Story

For Roses 2023, York Sport Union President Francesca Riley worked in partnership with Survive to fundraise and raise awareness on sexual violence. Survive supports survivors of sexual trauma as they begin to rebuild their lives, through providing services such as counselling, trauma therapy, support work and a helpline.

Two art pieces were created and showcased across the weekend to shine a light on sexual violence. At the the Roses 2023 Closing Ceremony, the University of York and Lancaster University announced that they would be match-funding the amount raised for Survive across the weekend, in order to keep the two art pieces as part of the University's collection. This would not have been possible without the work of our student artists, Elena Jackson and Lily Platten.
