Story
We had the idea to complete this challenge and fundraiser LAPS4LIZZY as it has a personal connection to the three of us.
The aim is to swim for 7 hours with the aim to hit 21km. Why 7 hours? Because 1 in 7 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime!!
Lizzy Sargeant is the beautiful Mum of Miccy Sargeant, and a close friend of Luke Maggiore & Lara Saunders. Lizzy is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 3 breast cancer and will continue to do so for the next 12 or so months. She has been offered incredible physical, psychological, and emotional support.
Our main focus is to raise money for the McGrath Foundation who are tirelessly trying to raise money to fund Breast Care Nurses who provide invaluable support and care to women and men experiencing breast cancer. From diagnosis right throughout treatment, McGrath Breast Care Nurses are available to help individuals and their families for free and with no referral.
A few words from Lizzy Sargeant :
‘A lot of you know me as Miccy’s mum. I have fortunately been healthy most of my life, I was shocked and surprised to find out in August this year that I have breast cancer. This diagnosis has changed my life and the life of my family.
Kim, my breast care nurse, has been a wonderful support to me and will continue to do so throughout my treatment. She is available to call or message and sees me every week when I attend the hospital for treatment. Kim arranges appointments for me and deals with all aspects of my treatment, liaises with my oncologist and the cancer care nurses within the hospital.
I am very fortunate to have Kim available to me when I need her and know she will be there for me throughout all aspects of my treatment which will continue for over another twelve months.
I want to thank Miccy, Luke and Lara for organising this fundraiser on my behalf and behalf of people diagnosed with breast cancer. I wish them well in their attempts but know they are up to the challenge. So, if you can help them meet their goal, please know that all funds raised will ensure that McGrath Foundation breast care nurses can continue their incredible work supporting patients and their families.
Love Lizzy x '
