Liberty's Legacy is a Special Fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust raising vital funds for life-saving research into Ewing sarcoma.

Story

Hi Everyone,

In April 2026, I will be running the London Marathon in memory of one of my brothers best friends Liberty Schurer, a bright, brave and beautiful soul who was taken far too soon at just 14 years old after battling Ewing Sarcoma. It is a rare, aggressive form of primary bone cancer, predominantly affecting children, especially teens.

Liberty's resilience, strength and radiant optimism throughout her illness was truly inspiring. Despite everything she faced, Liberty never lost her spark - she smiled, laughed and gave strength to everyone who knew her. She continues to be a powerful source of inspiration in my family's life, and is her memory that fuels every step of this marathon journey.

I'm taking on this challenge to raise funds for the Bone Cancer Research Trust - a charity that supported Liberty during her fight and continues to lead the way in research, awareness, and support for those affected by primary bone cancer. The work they do is vital in pushing boundaries of treatment, offering hope to families, and helping to ensure that stories like Liberty's become fewer and fewer. Treatment protocols for Ewing’s have barely changed in 40 years. 5 year survival rates have remained static at around 50% and for those with metastatic disease, only 20-30%. Yet primary bone cancer as a whole received just 0.027% of funding from the major UK cancer charities in 2020/21. Please help continue Liberty's Legacy, so that newly diagnosed patients can be given hope and the future every child deserves. For more info: www.bcrt.org.uk/LibertysLegacy
