Story
“You don’t lose them once, you lose them twice”; a phrase heartbreakingly familiar to anyone watching a loved one suffer with dementia.
Sadly, our family is once again facing this cruel reality as we watch another beloved member slowly decline with this terrible disease. So on 5 September 2025, I’ll be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge – walking over 24 miles in 12 hours – to raise money for Dementia UK and their incredible Admiral Nurses.
Quite simply, Admiral Nurses have kept us afloat. From helping us navigate a disjointed, complex and often cold health and care system, to providing vital emotional support in caring for the carers, Admiral Nurses have become our lifeline.
As we continue to watch my lovely Dad slowly lose his independence, joyful personality, memory and bodily functions, I want to give back to those who are helping others to fight a new day.
So I’m walking to support Admiral Nurses – who help families like mine through the heartbreak and reality of dementia.
