Story
Me and my son Freddie have a life threatening condition called Vascular EDS. It puts us both at risk of serious and often fatal emergencies such as , arterial ruptures , aneurysms and dissections. As well as organ ruptures, with a never ending list if other grievances, such as extreme bruising , organ prolapse , lung collapse, gastrional and vasular complications ect ( the list can go on and on ). It's means that we have to be so careful with everything we do in life, putting limitations on us daily. Ibhave suffered a stroke at 18 from a artery dissection , had another dissection in the neck the other side and and my bowel ruptured leaving me with a permanent ileostomy. Freddie as young as he is also suffers from bowel issues.
There's is currently no cure and it's so heartbreaking to think of not only my life being limited , painful and potentially short, but my poor little boys life being the same and potentially even losing him before myself , as Vascular EDS is like a ticking time bomb and no tommorow is certain. The diagnosis shook the very core of our lives, made what lies ahead for us so very uncertain & scary and limited our futures.
Annabelles challenge have been a life line to us and have done so much to help our families lives. To make the diagnosis a little easier and more manageable. I have benefited so much from them and their lovely and amazing staff. Counselling, school visits, family retreats and emergency folders. They have introduced me to so many other brave Veds warriors and I am externally grateful 🙏
So I want to raise money by walking 90k (3k) a day for the whole of October. To some it doesn't seem alot but for me it's a huge challenge 💪🏻. I'm doing it for all of us VED's warriors , because there have been times when I couldn't have even walked a step.
Annabelle's Challenge is the leading charity for vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in the UK. At the heart of the charity is Annabelle, a brave little girl from Bury who is the inspiration behind our challenge to raise awareness and support for patients and families affected by vascular EDS.
Vascular EDS is a life threatening connective tissue disorder that affects all tissues, arteries and internal organs making them extremely fragile. Patients are at risk of sudden arterial or organ rupture.
