Story
On 25 September 2025, Achim would have been 60 years old. But he never made that milestone. So, joined by 2 trusty cycling friends, Nick C and Nick W, I am marking the date for him. We will ride 100 miles, from Newcastle up the Northumberland coast to Berwick-upon-Tweed and we hope to raise £1,000 for the suicide prevention charity, Papyrus, in the process.
Each year, more than 700,000 people take their own life around the world. It is the most common cause of death in young people under 35 in the UK and around three quarters of those dying are boys and young men. For those left behind, the pain caused by this unfathomable loss is profound and life altering.
Papyrus is the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide among young people by the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. Currently their critically important 24-hour helpline is at risk; without emergency funding, it may not be able to continue running through the night.
Please give whatever you can to help ensure that this vital lifeline stays open and more young lives are saved.
