Laura’s London 2 Brighton Cycle Challenge for TWGGEF

London to Brighton Cycle Ride 2025 · 14 September 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
In September, I’ll be cycling 55 miles from London to Brighton.
Yes. Fifty-five. Miles. On a bike.
At the time of signing up for this somewhat questionable challenge, my cycling experience consisted mainly of slightly wobbly, slightly tipsy rides around Center Parcs and a brief electric bike adventure in Hyde Park - which, I might add, left me with a very sore undercarriage and walking like John Wayne for the best part of a week. Not ideal. So, why on earth am I willingly putting myself through this saddle-based suffering?
Well, here’s why…
Back in 2012, we started trying for a baby. Naively, we thought we’d have one in our arms within a year or so. But life had other plans.
What followed was over 7 years of heartbreak, including 7 pregnancy losses before we finally welcomed our beautiful Bertie in 2019. Since then, we experienced another 5 losses before Wilf arrived in 2023 and Sid completed our family in 2024. We are beyond grateful for them - but the journey here was beyond brutal.
Our experiences have included:
Chemical pregnancies
Missed miscarriages
Two ectopic pregnancies
A partial molar pregnancy
Multiple surgeries (two D&Cs, the removal of polyps, a uterine septum and my left fallopian tube).
Countless tests, appointments, and more medication than a Boots warehouse.
It was a relentless, exhausting, soul-destroying cycle of hope and loss. But the worst part? Not knowing if I’d ever get to be a mum. The desperation, the isolation, the overwhelming sadness - it nearly broke me. I lost confidence, withdrew from people around me, and felt like a shadow of who I used to be.
That’s why I’m doing this.
Because nobody should have to go through that level of heartbreak without support from someone who truly understands.
In 2020, I met the incredible Bex, and together we created The Worst Girl Gang Ever - a community determined to smash the taboos around baby loss and infertility. What began as a mission to help just one woman feel less alone has grown into a lifeline for thousands.
Through our podcast, social media, support courses, bestselling book, workplace webinars and now our very own registered charity, we've supported people across the globe. And we’re only just getting started.
Our charity’s mission?
To live in a world where the experiences of baby loss and infertility are understood, and support is accessible to everyone.
We want to reach every grieving parent, everywhere - and give them the care, compassion, and connection they deserve.
So if you can sponsor me - and maybe chuckle at the thought of me limping through Brighton with bike-induced bum ache - your donation will help me keep going, literally and figuratively, and make sure that no one has to walk (or cycle) this path alone again.
Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and being part of this journey.
Much love,
Laura
