We support a community of people living in the Hai district of Tanzania, East Africa, employing local staff to run the Activity Centre, supporting and empowering people with learning disabilities, through person-centred planning, to feel fulfilled and become safely integrated into the communities they live.  We aim to encourage social inclusion, respect and acceptance through raising the awareness and understanding of inclusion in the community. The activities may include: music, art & crafts, numeracy & literacy, vocational skills and social outings with the community.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Nations Together first opened it's doors in 2017 to a community of young people with learning difficulties living in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. Many of the young people we support had never left their villages and had experienced very little life opportunities until Mama Grace and I bounced into their lives.

Mama Grace became the face of our charity, a local Chagga women with a wealth of experience in nursing and community projects. A vibrant personality and a ready smile for everyone.

I, myself, have known and worked alongside Mama Grace on and off for over 24 years and it is with great sadness that Mama Grace suddenly and unexpectedly died, just as our project was beginning to grow and thrive.

Nations Together known as Community well being organisation in Tanzania offers a day provision enabling young people to come along, meet other young people, build friendships, engage with planned activities, have a substantial meal, learn new skills, play games, access sport, feel valued and included and are supported to access the local community.

We were excited that we had just built our first small building on 1.5 acres of land that has been donated to the charity, our vision is much bigger and so in honour of Mama Grace and so many more connected with our charity this fund raiser will be an on-going platform for people to donate to help us achieve our multi-functioning village where our young people can live, work and flourish for the rest of their lives, protected and included.

The project will be completed in phases depending on available funds:

Phase One: Security wall around the 1.5 acres

Phase two: Central hub for activities, kitchen area and toilets to enable us to move out of current rented premises

Phase three: Young people, staff and volunteer accommodation

Phase four: Animal shelters and cultivated land to work towards self-sustaining projects
