Story
On Saturday 24th April 2027, I will be running 26.2 miles in the London Marathon for St Luke’s Hospice.
St. Luke's Hospice is a charity that provides compassionate care and support to people in Brent & Harrow that are at the end stages of their life, as well as supporting their loved ones.
I have a personal connection with St Luke’s, as my uncle, Tony, spent the last few weeks of his life on the inpatient unit at St. Luke's. The care he received there is care that I will never forget. The staff treated Tony with compassion, attention and as an individual, and this made such a difference in his last weeks.
Outside of the hospice's inpatient unit, St. Luke's provides support to thousands of people each year, whether that be care in their homes - or by them visiting the hospice for wellbeing services, such as physiotherapy, complementary therapies, or emotional support.
All of the care provided by St. Luke’s is provided free of charge. St Luke’s receives only 30% of their funding from the NHS, with the rest coming from charity shop sales, and fundraisers like mine. It costs an average of £634 to fund one inpatient bed per day, that’s just over £5,000 per person, per week. It is vital that hospices like St. Luke's continue to receive funding and donations so that they can remain open, and provide this amazing care and support to people and their families through life’s toughest moments.
I am so proud to be able to take on such a challenge as the TCS 2027 London Marathon, for such a worthy cause. Every donation, no matter the size, will help St Luke’s Hospice to continue providing the care needed by others, when they need it most. I would be so grateful for anything you are able to donate, thank you so much!
