Story

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

My name is Laura and I would like to thank you for taking your time to come across this page. Me and my colleagues have both work in a mental health setting for 10 years now, we love our job and seeing people recover from there mental health, and being part of there journey is rewarding.

Though, we are all passionate about mental health overall, we are more passionate on Men’s mental health. we are more passionate on spreading awareness on Men's mental health and breaking down the stigma of this.

Men's mental health should be spoken about more often, by spreading awareness and promoting that it is okay for men to speak on how they are feeling, without feeling any stigma and seeking the correct support.

I have noticed over time when speaking about mental health awareness a lot of the time it is spoken about females however not much awareness is being shared for men. I have recognized over the years that men's mental health is extremely stigmatized and is not spoken about enough, men's mental health has not been spoken about as much as females' mental health does. Part of the stigma that still exists about mental health for men, is that men have greater difficulty talking about their own struggles than women do. 40% of men, do not talk about their mental health, due to stigmatisation, and judgement. In the UK, where nearly 12 men lose their lives to suicide every day, this is 3 times more than women.

When I first proposed the idea to my team about wanting raise money for men's mental health and to spread awareness across our workplace and externally. They were immediately onto the idea and purpose to raise money for the Andysman's club charity, most of the team had never heard of this charity before. Most have asked why I have chosen this particularly charity, the reason being so, is that men's mental health is not talked about enough and it is important to voice and spread awareness of this charity.

Andysmandclub is a suicide prevention charity, to encourage males across the UK to speak about their mental health. They run weekly meetings at no cost, to provide support to each individual male and help prevent suicide and break this stigma of men suffering in silence.

So, in memory of those who unfortunately lost their lives, and also for all males out there who are struggling in silence. We will be raising money for the Andysmanclub in hopes to spread awareness and stand with males who are battling with their mental health, by letting them know that it is okay to speak about it.

We will be running a charity event internally ant northern healthcare (unable to disclose details due to confidentiality). With cake sales, food, raffles, drinks, my colleagues Mandi will be taking on the ice bucket challenge. My service manager, Neil and I will be going head to head as they face their very own bush ticker trial. Three course course meal complete with drink, created by their colleagues.

We will be completing an external obstacle course on the 14th October 2025, and a golfing tournament on the 15th October 2025. This is way out of our league, but we are doing this to spread awareness and standing solitary with males.

We would appreciate if you donated to this page or donated straight onto the andysmanclub website.

I would also like to take this opportunity to anyone reading this, if you are struggling with your mental health, please don’t suffer in silence. Please don’t let them silent screams get any louder, there is help out there and remember it is okay to talk. Because, moment you start stalking about it, it gets better.

Let’s start having conversation about men’s mental health.

Thank you,

Laura
