First Touch supports sick and premature babies cared for at St George’s neonatal unit in SW London. We fund state-of-the-art equipment and specialist staff training which are outside of the scope of NHS budgets, as well as a range of initiatives to support families during their stay on the unit.

Story

Hi everyone!

My name is Laura and I’m running the Royal Parks Marathon in aid of the wonderful charity First Touch who support babies in the neonatal unit in St George’s Hospital.

As many of you may or may not know, I am working as an Occupational Therapist on the neonatal unit and so this is a charity which is very close to my heart. As an OT, my job is to support parents and babies in completing day to day activities (occupations) in a way that’s supporting brain development! OT’s aim to empower parents to be primary caregivers for their babies, enable them to understand baby behaviour, support with early sensory development, assess thinking and moving skills and so much more.

Being a part of the early intervention team for babies who have arrived to the world early or require medical intervention has been beyond rewarding and I am really excited by the prospect of raising money for such an amazing cause! Each and every day, the funds raised by First Touch make a huge difference to the lives of the babies and families we care for at St George’s Hospital and I really hope we can spread the word, far and wide, to raise as much awareness as possible.

Thanking you all so much for your support🥰
