Story
Hello! Thanks for visiting 👋
If you who have met me through work, life, or even just in passing, I'm hoping you’ll know I care deeply about people feeling safe, supported and empowered to be their best selves whatever the circumstance. That’s the heartbeat behind the work I do in Employee Experience and it's what makes me show up for all of my loved ones outside of work too. It is also why I have decided to do the HR Connect and Hope for Justice trip to Ethiopia.
At the start of this year, I was sat on my sofa covered in paint (definitely doing too much solo DIY 🤦♀️ ), watching TV and thinking… Is this really how I want 2025 to go? I knew I wanted something more meaningful to come of it.
Around the same time, I found out about the HR Connect and Hope for Justice trip to Ethiopia and in all honestly - the self doubt crept in immediately, "you don't have time", "you can’t raise the money" etc etc. And then I thought, if I carry on my life like this, I'll never do anything so - an application and an interview later. I AM GOING.
For me, this trip is about taking my own core values and putting them into action outside of my usual environment and in an entirely new context. Doing something I can be really proud of.
So, what will I actually be doing?
Hope for Justice is a global charity working to end modern slavery and human trafficking. In November 2025, I’ll be part of a small group of HR professionals volunteering at their Lighthouse aftercare centre in Addis Ababa, where children who’ve been exploited receive so many incredible forms of support. We’ll also travel to Wolaita, where community-based programmes empower vulnerable women and families to build safer futures💪
Plus, we also have the opportunity to share our professional skills too, delivering workshops, presentations and mentoring sessions to support the staff who are doing truly incredible work already.
I’m aiming to raise £2,500 for Hope for Justice - the money goes directly to the charity to help fund their amazing work (I will be covering my own costs to get me to and from Ethiopia).
👉 £15 could provide a child who has been trafficked with good-quality meals for two days at a Lighthouse
👉 £50 could provide medical care and medicine for 3 children at one of our Lighthouses
👉 £100 could provide emergency shelter and care for a child for four weeks
👉 £1,200 could provide food, shelter, trauma support, therapy and almost everything else a vulnerable child needs, from reception at one of our Lighthouses, through to safe reintegration with their family
I can’t wait to share what I learn along the way with you all.🎉
