Half marathon / 10k Β· 23 March 2025
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. On 23rd March 2025 myself and around 10 others will be running the Whitstable Half Marathon or 10k in aid of Beat SCAD - a cause very close to my heart (excuse the pun!).
On 29th January 2024 out of nowhere I had a heart attack in my office at work. My world as I knew it changed beyond recognition; I. had suffered from a SCAD heart attack, where one of your arteries bruises or tears, and no one, as yet, is entirely sure why it happens.
What I do know is that whilst I began the long journey of putting the pieces back together I had an incredible support network around me, both close friends and family and strangers through the charity Beat SCAD who work tirelessly to provide information and support to SCAD patients and contribute to valuable research. This charity is run solely by volunteers and is an incredible resource for those who need it.
As it comes up to one year since my cardiac event and I look back at how far I've come I am so grateful - so grateful for all the information and help I was provided with through beat SCAD and Dr Adlam's team at Glenfield hospital in Leicester, so grateful for those people who have seen me through the emotional scarring and confusion...When I was lying in an acute coronary care bed in St Thomas' Hospital I daren't have dreamt that I would be running another half marathon, let alone with some of my favourite people.
Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection is an uncommon condition that cannot be predicted or prevented β yet. It predominantly affects people aged 45-55 and over 80% of cases are women. SCAD is a serious heart condition which is striking healthy women and men... people who you probably wouldn't think would be at risk of having a heart attack. When SCAD strikes, it is life-changing for the patient and their loved ones. SCAD can be fatal. It is critical that we find out what causes SCAD.
Research is key - and this costs money! Please give whatever you can to our beat SCAD team effort. It would be amazing to smash our target.
