Story
My mum was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain tumour in November 2023. She never complained and remained as positive and as hopeful as she could during the year of treatment. In September 2024, she received devasting news that the tumour had returned and second line chemotherapy treatment was prescribed Unfortunately, in December at her MRI scan results she was told that the treatment had been ineffective and the tumour had grown. In March 2025 she was admitted to St Andrew's Hospice for symptom management. The first ten days she enjoyed getting outside in the wheelchair, meeting her family and friends in the Cafe for tea and coffee and some sweet treats. At the start of April her health deteriorated and she passed away on 13th May 2025.
Prior to my mum's passing, my sister and I along with our amazing friend Lizz signed up to the 15km Midnight walk. We experienced first hand the care given to our mum from each any every member of staff. The doctors, nursing staff and all other staff and volunteers were supportive to us during some of our dark days. They didn't only provide care for my mum but to us as well.
We as a family will be forever grateful for all that the hospice did for us during the final 7 weeks.
