First of all, eeeek! I’m running the London Marathon!!!!

This will definitely be one of the biggest achievements in my life. I’m not just talking about the physical aspect, but the mental aspect of something which seems minor to many, but is the biggest step in my life. Posting without makeup! Embracing the skin I was born with, and sharing my story!

I was born with a birthmark covering my left cheek, my right arm and part of my neck.

Growing up, it often made me feel different from my peers, drawing unwanted attention and insensitive comments. This unique feature on my skin became a focal point, making me feel so self-conscious, that from a very young age, I hid it. Makeup, long sleeves, laser removal - i’ve tried everything. I became to good at hiding it, there are so many people in my life who aren’t even aware of it, so posting this is super scary!

I’ve never really been able to accept this is how I look, and constantly struggle with comparing myself to others and wishing to be someone different.

I came across Changing Faces when I was struggling mentally as a result of my difference. I was amazed to see a charity dedicated to supporting individuals who have a visible difference. It really opened my eyes and I found everyone’s stories so inspirational.

We now live in a society with such a high pressure to look and act a certain way, any sort of difference draws attention and nasty comments are given. To be curious is one thing, but to point out, make fun of it is not okay.

I’ve hid for so long, my birthmark has affected every aspect of my life. But i’m now on the road to acceptance and it’s a challenging road ahead. One of my biggest dreams one day is to be a mother, how can I teach my child to love the skin they are in when I can’t do it myself?

I am running the London Marathon for Changing Faces to raise awareness, combat the stigma and to help them continue to the provide essential support for those with a difference, helping them embrace their unique appearances and live life with confidence.
