Story
I’m taking on a 35km rowing challenge in the middle of Royal Victoria Place, Tunbridge Wells - which, if nothing else, promises several hours of very public humiliation!
I’m doing it to raise money for ADSS (Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Services) as they celebrate their 35th anniversary.
The birthday is a brilliant reason to do something a little ridiculous, but the real reason I’m rowing is much bigger.
Through my work, I’ve heard first-hand about the difference this charity makes to people affected by dementia across Kent. I’ve heard stories from people who felt hope had disappeared, until someone from ADSS was there to help them find it again. I’ve seen how the right support can bring purpose back into the lives of people living with dementia, give carers and families someone to lean on, and help people retain their dignity throughout their journey.
That’s what will keep me rowing when 35km starts to feel like a very bad idea.
You don’t need to know me to support this challenge. Dementia touches so many of our families, friendships and communities, and chances are, most of us know someone whose life has been changed by it.
So if you can spare a few pounds, please sponsor me. Every donation will help ADSS continue to be there - restoring hope, creating purpose and protecting dignity when people need it most.
35km. One rowing machine. Right in the middle of Tunbridge Wells. Wish me luck!
