Story
Teapot Trust has a vision – one where every child or young person living with a long term health condition can access transformational art therapy without barriers or cost. The trust provides art therapy across the UK, as an effective psychological intervention to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people with long term health conditions.
1 in 4 children and young people in the UK suffer with a long term health condition that causes anxiety, depression and childhood trauma.
Through the gentle process of art therapy, Teapot Trust supports them to express and process their feelings about their diagnosis, their treatment regime, and how this affects them day-to-day. Through art therapy, they find effective coping tools which build resilience. It is powerful and transformative. 92% make good progress towards their goals, no longer feeling defined by their condition.
My name is Fergus, I am 9 years old and I have a condition called Hereditary Motor Neuropathy. It is a condition that I was born with and it can make the muscles in my legs feel tired very quickly. It makes activities like running, jumping and walking longer distances difficult for me. This year I joined a group of other boys who were the same age as me. We joined a zoom meeting every Tuesday afternoon for 8 weeks to do Art therapy sessions with Jane and Cat. Art therapy was fun, the Teapot Trust sent me a parcel with lots of art materials that we used during the sessions. I enjoyed meeting other boys who experienced similar challenges to me. It felt good knowing that I wasn't the only one facing these kind of challenges.
After the 8 sessions I decided that I would like to raise money for the Teapot Trust so Cat and Jane can help more children. I have decided to swim 1 mile without stopping. This is a big challenge for me because the furthest I have done in one go is 400m! I am going to the swimming pool lots over the school summer holiday to train and to get stronger. I am going to complete the 1 mile swimming challenge in September.
