Story
Before Dad passed away on 13th September 2024, he'd had a pretty crappy year. He'd been in and out of different hospitals (mostly in) and the experience was far from ideal....except when he was being cared for in Velindre. When he was there, we could relax. We knew he was being looked after.
Prior to Dad's passing, I had signed up to the Castle to Castle run and the Cardiff Half marathon to raise money for Velindre. Unfortunately, Dad passed just before the events, but we managed to raise over £3000.
In January this year, Dad's good friend organised a memorial darts tournament, which again, raised over £3000 for Velindre 🎯
So, looking ahead to next year...I have signed up for a new challenge....
A trek, in Spain...I will summit Mount Mulhacen, 3,482m – Spain’s (mainland) highest peak and the third highest peak in continental Europe!
Overall, this a tough mountain trek for those with an adventurous spirit, who are hoping to push themselves out of their comfort zone.
The terrain is a mixture of wide open grassy or dusty paths and steep rocky trails with some non-technical scrambling over boulders. In total we climb and descend over 2,000m.
Like I mentioned earlier, Dad had a rough time...but he never complained. And so, I feel the least I can do, in my selfish effort to have something good come from something heartbreaking, is to push myself to do something that is completely out of my comfort zone and continue to raise funds, in Dad's memory, for a place that provided us all with some comfort in the worst of times.
