Story

Last year I was deeply saddened by the loss of an old friend, Shelley Mottershead. Some of the happiest memories from my childhood are made up of fond moments of our primary school days together. We started out as the only two female footballers in an entire league of boys, and ended up forming part of the first ever all girls team in Stafford, Topps 2000.

She was a truly unique person who made a lasting impression on every life she touched.

In June, 3 days after what would have been Shelley’s 36th birthday, I will be trekking 100km between Scarborough and Whitby taking on the North Yorkshire Ultra Challenge. I will be raising money for University Hospitals of North Midlands, a cause that gave critical care to Shelley in a time of need.

A piece of coastline which holds a special place in my own heart, going the distance between these two iconic Yorkshire towns will take more than just my walking boots and rucksack. This journey will take grit, determination and a stubborn “never give up” attitude - three qualities my friend Shelley knew a little something about.

It will be a privilege to raise money in her name, any donation you are able to make will enable UHNM to support others like Shelley and take me one step closer to being able to honour her memory.
