Around 1 in 20 adults in the UK have experienced sexual assault, and countless others are affected indirectly. These numbers are devastating — but behind each one is a person, a story, and a survivor.
I am one of them. On the night of 19–20 November 2022, my life changed forever. I trusted someone — a taxi driver — to get me home safely, but I was betrayed, assaulted, and violated. Reporting what happened was just the beginning of a journey I never asked for — one filled with pain, PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Who I am now is someone striving to rebuild, to reclaim her life, and to channel trauma into purpose. This space — and this fundraiser — are part of that purpose: my way of breaking the silence around sexual assault, mental health, and the realities of being a survivor.
Since last year’s fundraiser, a lot has changed: new diagnoses, new triggers, EMDR therapy, a book, and, perhaps most importantly, a flicker of hope that wasn’t there before. The Survivors Trust has been a lifeline — a source of strength, information, and compassion when I needed it most.
This year’s Fundraiser Quiz Night is my way of giving back, raising awareness, and reminding others that healing isn’t linear, but it is possible.
As Suzie Miller writes in Prima Facie:
“All I know is that somewhere. Some time. Somehow. Something has to change.”
That change starts here — with conversations, compassion, and community. It’s why I keep speaking out on my social media platforms, and why I live by the mantra: “If it kills me, I tried.” Because silence helps no one, and every act of support helps create change.
We’re aiming to raise £1,500 for The Survivors Trust, but we would love to go further and match last year’s incredible total. Every donation, share, and kind word helps ensure more survivors get the support they deserve. 💜
Every five minutes in the UK someone experiences rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault by penetration. 15% of girls and 5% of boys have experienced sexual violence by the time they are sixteen. The Survivors Trust is the only UK and Ireland-wide umbrella agency for specialist organisations supporting all survivors of rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse. Our core aim is to ensure that society supports all survivors effectively and takes responsibility for ending sexual violence. Help us to achieve this.
