On 11th January, I will be competing in the Winchester half-marathon trail run through muddy, hilly Hampshire. I've been training consistently through the dark, cold winter mornings. My sister, Rosie, is running too.

I'm running to raise money for Ewan Hind's Legacy Bursary for Ocean Youth Trust South. Ewan skippered Victoria Clipper in the 2005-6 Clipper Round the World Race. Angus and I were both part of his crew, and he was a dear and treasured friend.

Ewan died tragically in Grenada on 12th December 2024 aged 46, having just crossed the Atlantic with his wife Sarah and sons Archie and Fergus on their boat Coconut as part of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) Plus.

The Ewan Hind Legacy Bursary has been set up by Ewan's family in his memory. Ewan was a passionate supporter of sail training; his own sail training experiences as a youngster shaped his interests and career, and he both volunteered and worked in the field.

Ocean Youth Trust South offer fantastic opportunities to young people, enabling them to experience the personal challenges and rewards of life as part of a crew on their sail training boat, Prolific.

Ewan's Legacy Bursary will enable Ocean Youth Trust South to offer sail training opportunities to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. We know that Ewan would love for his legacy to widen access to the sailing experiences that he shared with his own children, and that we are also lucky enough to share with our children.
