We are looking for donations to transform an unfurnished social home for a family fleeing domestic abuse.

Laura Hammett is raising money for Furnishing Futures
Furnishing Futures fully furnishes and decorates the homes of vulnerable women and children who don’t have access to basic items of furniture by partnering with the interiors industry to repurpose high quality products that might otherwise be sent to landfill. We combine social work values with interior design skills to create healing homes for families who have experienced multiple disadvantages and trauma, in particular women and children who are moving on from domestic abuse refuges.

Story

We are looking for donations to help us transform an unfurnished social home for a family fleeing domestic abuse.

Last year we partnered with Furnishing Futures to transform a refuge for women and children fleeing domestic violence. We used trauma-informed design to create a calming, healing home for the incredible women, children and babies we met there. We saw first-hand how design can profoundly improve the wellbeing of women and children fleeing abuse, and we were so incredibly touched by their reaction and the impact it had.

Before

After

Following the success of our last collaboration, we are honoured to be taking part in a pilot for Furnishing Futures’ new scheme, in which an interior designer/ studio will transform individual social housing given to women and children escaping domestic violence. Less than 2% of social housing comes furnished, and almost always without basic necessities such as white goods. The charity’s vision is to roll this programme out nationally, partnering with local councils and designers across the UK to create safe, nurturing homes for those who need them most.

To make this possible, we are asking our trusted suppliers, industry friends and generous clients for donations to renovate and decorate the houses we’ve been assigned this year. Every contribution, no matter the size, will directly fund essential white goods, furniture, paint, bedding, children’s cots and soft furnishings that will help create a warm, safe and dignified home environment for its residents.

If you feel able to support this life-changing project, we would appreciate your support. Thank you for considering being part of something that will truly change lives, I look forward to keeping you updated with the progress of this wonderful project.

If you are a supplier wanting to donate furniture items (they must be in brand new condition), please email georgia.rose@laurahammett.com.
