After supporting the inspirational Peace Mala project for over 15 years, I have decided to walk the Camino to Santiago de Compostela on September 23 rd 2023. This is a lifelong dream after reading Paolo Coelho’s book about the pilgrimage.
‘Peace Mala has an extraordinary peace mission to the world. Started by former teacher Pam Evans MBE in response to the bullying of Muslim, Asian and Chinese students at her school in the aftermath of 9/11, the project is now in its 21st year. Many schools across the UK are involved, including a good number in Manchester. Laura and ‘The Monastery’ in Gorton Manchester have an important part to play in that story, when a chance meeting in 2008 brought all together at The Monastery.
The multi award winning Peace Mala educational project encourages young people to engage with creative, compassionate education that embraces all cultures and encourages cohesion, diversity, global citizenship and respect for all.
On Sunday 17th September, just before International Peace Day on the 21st, Revd Fay Barratt will be leading a service at The Monastery focusing on the German Benedictine abbess, mystic, saint, poet and musician Hildegard of Bingen.
Blessing and protection for Laura’s pilgrimage will be included. A candle for world peace will also be lit. Laura will carry Peace Mala candles to light along the way. Our purpose is to send out a powerful message of love, friendship and peace to all who share planet earth. With the vision of Peace Mala, there is hope for a more compassionate and just world. Please support Laura’s noble effort for Peace Mala and sponsor her on ‘Just Giving’.
Cariad a bendieth Pam Evans MBE Founder of Peace Mala.’
