Story
I will be running the Leeds half marathon on 10th May to raise money for this amazing charity, one I have worked with and seen support so many of my patients.
For those of you who know me know that running is not something I have ever done so this is so far out of my comfort zone.
I am an Occupational Therapist working with people afflicted by Motor Neurone Disease, their families and carers. Seeing the challenges they face on a daily basis has inspired me to take on my own challenge. I am doing this run for all my current and past patients to show my awe and admiration for all they go through and raise some money along the way.
Thank you so much for donating, it means a so much! Lauren xx
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone, and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.
