Story

Callum and I have had our fair share of bad luck over recent years. But we have been lucky to have amazing family and friends by our side.

For those who don't know we have had multiple failed rounds of IVF. Which is mentally and physically testing. I've had hundreds of injections, painful procedures and side effects with no family to show for it.

You would think that would be enough for any couple. However after feeling progressively unwell during this time and ending up in hospital there was more to come.

Unfortunately this October I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis.

It is classed as one of the 20 most painful conditions in the world.

Endometriosis is the name given to the condition where cells similar to the ones in the lining of the womb (uterus) are found elsewhere in the body. It affects 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth, that's as many as diabetes yet very few people have even heard of it.

It takes an average of 8 years to get a diagnosis of endometriosis in the UK, that's too long.

I am now having a monthly injection used to treat breast and prostate cancer to try and reduce the inflammation and spread in preparation for major surgery in the new year. Unfortunately at present there is no cure.

Mine has been caught at the worst possible stage to which I have deep infiltrating lesions and nodules throughout my pelvis and bowel. I live daily with chronic pain but as always I am determined to live as normal life as possible.

Callum has been right by my side through all of this and we decided therefore we will be doing the Great North Run together.

I don't want any more women to be in the situation that I am now in.

Your donations will mean that Endometriosis UK can continue to support those affected by Endometriosis through national support groups, information provision and their helpline as well as continue to campaign for change, fairer treatment and eventually a cure.
