Lauren's fundraiser for The Nipple Innovation Project

Lauren Commins is raising money for NIP

ASICS Manchester Half Marathon 2026 · 4 October 2026 ·

The Nipple Innovation Project (NIP) is a charity providing free, long-lasting 3D nipple and areola tattoos to people who have lost a nipple following breast cancer surgery, medical procedures or for other reasons. We believe everyone deserves to feel comfortable and confident in their body. Losing a nipple can have a significant emotional impact, and our specialist artists help people restore the appearance of their nipples through realistic, personalised tattoos tailored to their individual skin tone and needs. Our work supports people of all genders, including those who have undergone breast construction, mastectomy or other surgery resulting in nipple loss. By funding treatments delivered by skilled tattoo artists across the UK, we remove the financial barrier to accessing this important final stage of reconstruction. Every donation helps us reach more people, restore confidence and support individuals on their journey towards feeling whole again.

Story

I’ve decided to run the Manchester Half Marathon on 4th October to raise money for the Nipple Innovation Project ❤️

If you know me, you’ll probably know I’m always looking for the next challenge and I can’t sit still, so naturally I’ve decided that running 13.1 miles around Manchester is a good idea 😂

But I wanted to do this one for something that is really close to my heart.

Lucy, a tattoo artist based in Yorkshire originally started providing nipple tattoos free of charge to women who had lost them through mastectomies or other breast surgeries. She wanted to give women back a little bit of body confidence and normality after everything they had been through.

As she wanted to be able to help more women, Lucy realised she needed funding to make it possible, and this is when she set up the Nipple Innovation Project.

After my mastectomy, the only option I was offered on the NHS was a semi permanent nipple tattoo done by a nurse. It would need to be redone every so often because it fades, and there was also the worry of scarring. I just didn’t want something that I would have to keep having done and that would constantly remind me of my surgery.

Then, completely by chance, I came across Lucy’s page. She was looking for a model while training up another tattoo artist, so I contacted her and it went from there.

It might sound like such a small thing, but it really wasn’t. After everything I’d been through, having that little bit of normality back made such a difference to how I felt about my body.

I was incredibly lucky to come across Lucy when I did, and I know there are so many other women out there who would benefit from the same opportunity. She is a genuine gorgeous human and we’ve even met up for a dog walk and a chat.

So I thought I’d put my love of running to good use and raise some money to help the Nipple Innovation Project continue helping women who are in the position I was in.

If you can donate anything at all, I’d be so grateful. Every little bit will help ❤️

And if you see me complaining about my legs between now and October, please remind me that I chose to do this myself 😂

Thank you so much for supporting me and this amazing charity ❤️
