Story

My cousin’s little boy Albert was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at Frimley Park Hospital on 26th October 2022 aged only 2 years and 7 months. Albert was immediately transferred to Southampton’s children’s hospital where his fight and treatment for cancer began. The Piam Brown ward became his new home for the next 4 months where he incurred countless chemotherapy’s, blood transfusions, operations, and tests. Albert then started maintenance treatment at home but due to being neutropenic he had countless infections and was regularly an inpatient on the ward. Sadly, just under a year of Alberts diagnosis he relapsed and has spent more time in hospital than at home. Albert has received Car T cell therapy at Great Ormond Street and is hopefully on the road to recovery, but they can’t be certain the treatment has worked until a year post the car T cell transplant. His journey has been such a bumpy road but the support from Abby’s heroes has been second to none for them as a family.

I’m fundraising for Abby’s Heroe’s who help and support children and their families, including bereaved families, who come under the care of the Piam Brown and the Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) wards at Southampton General Hospital. They offer financial help, practical help, counselling services, day trips out as well as the opportunity to make lasting memories for the children and their families. Abby’s heroes have been a vital and constant support to Albert and his family.

Most of you that know me, know I’m a bit of a thrill seeker and will give most things a go but to say I am sh***ing a brick about this would be an understatement! However, I’m putting on my big girl’s pants and going to be brave because Albert, his big sister Elsie, his parents and all our wider family have been doing much braver things in these tough times.

Any donation, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. Anyone who wants to come down and watch, I am booked to do it at 11am on Saturday 15th June. EEEKKKKKK!
