Every Mile Matters - Lauren's Fundraiser for Trekstock

The Big Half 2024 · 1 September 2024 ·
It’s no secret that I’ve started running. I mean it’s become a continuous topic of conversation (sorry to all my close friends) and a habitual part of my life. Exploring new places whilst blasting Fred again.., socialising with the promise of post-run pastries, collecting endless Strava kudos and all whilst proving to myself I can shatter personal boundaries… being able to run is a real privilege.
But this September, each step I take has a purpose beyond personal bests. In April this year, my friend Maddie Higgins, who I had the privilege of meeting during my time at Starbucks, was handed a marathon challenge that none of us would want to run into: a battle with an extremely rare bone cancer, osteosarcoma. At only 32, it’s not something I think a lot of us imagine having to deal with - such an aggressive cancer that only around 150 other people will get in the UK this year. So, in the spirit of solidarity and support, I’m lacing up with purpose and running the Big Half to raise funds for Trekstock.
This extraordinary charity extends a lifeline to young adults in their 20s and 30s who are running their own races against cancer. Trekstock steps in where other organisations step out, offering a helping hand to those who find themselves in a gap - too old for teenage services, yet too young in mainstream cancer support. They’re not just about survival; they’re about quality of life, connection and empowerment on a journey no one chooses but must endure.
I’m asking you to join me in supporting Trekstock’s vital work. Whatever it may be, every donation helps go the distance for young adults facing cancer.
