Story
Just Keep Walking!
This autumn I will be walking two back to back marathons (26 miles each day) in the Sahara! We will be starting the walk near Mt Kissane, walking through the Draa Valley, onto the fortress of Beni Zoli and to the finish in the Nakhla sand dunes!
As a ‘warm up’ for this I will also be taking part in a 31 mile walk of a section of the Thames Path. A total of over 80 miles walked!
During these events I will be raising money in memory of my dear Uncle Bill who recently passed away from cancer. For much of his illness he was cared for at home by his wonderful wife Monica, his sons and carers. However, when the pain became too much he moved to the Isabel Hospice who did everything they could to make his final days as bearable as possible.
In an twist of fate this was the hospice that Bill had been involved with for 6 years, as a volunteer and then as a member of the Boards Of Trustees. He threw himself wholeheartedly into the role with a passion for the Hospice and the Hospice Movement.
All of the hospices services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost, meaning the charity must raise £7 million every year to guarantee the future of the hospice.
I would really appreciate any donations to help me reach my target for an amazing charity .
More information about Isabel Hospice:
Isabel Hospice was founded by Isabel Last with a group of volunteers in 1982 when Isabel, who herself suffered from cancer, realised that there was a need for support for patients and their families in the local area.
The hospice has been providing free palliative care to its patients ever since. They provide support and care to people in Eastern Hertfordshire who are affected by life-limiting illnesses through their Hospice at Home, In-Patient Unit, Community Team, Living Well with Isabel programme and their Family & Bereavement support service.
The hospice helps people by improving their quality of life by impeccable holistic assessment. This allows people to make the most of the time they have left and die with dignity in the place of their choice, knowing their loved ones are supported.
