Sponsored Waddle · 17 May 2025

.St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College hosts approximately 130 pupils ranging in age from 2 to 19. Our school motto "we all achieve” is at the forefront of all our planning and all the work we undertake, which we will strive to ensure is always for the benefit of each and every one of our pupils.

Story

We will be holding a ‘sponsored waddle’ to raise money to improve our small animal facilities. We are going to walk across the Humber Bridge on Saturday 17th May, we will meet in the Humber Bridge car park at 10am with a view to set off at 10:15. The walk across the bridge is 1.4 miles, and we will walk to the end and then back to the car park (2.8 miles overall). We invite everyone to dress as an animal, or wear clothing with animals/animal prints (this is optional).

Engaging students with special educational needs in activities involving small animals, such as guinea pigs, rabbits, and ducks, offers a wide range of developmental, emotional, and educational benefits. These interactions can promote calmness, reduce anxiety, and enhance focus through the soothing presence of animals. Caring for small animals helps students develop empathy, responsibility, and nurturing skills in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Additionally, animal-assisted activities can improve communication, motor coordination, and social interaction, especially for students with autism or other developmental challenges. The predictable and gentle nature of animals like guinea pigs and ducks also creates a therapeutic setting that supports emotional regulation and builds confidence, contributing positively to overall wellbeing and learning outcomes. Our animals give us so much, we’d like to give something back to them.

St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College hosts approximately 160 pupils ranging in age from 2 to 19.

Our school motto - “we all achieve” - is at the forefront of all our planning and all the work we undertake, which we will strive to ensure is always for the benefit of each and every one of our pupils.

We aim to provide our pupils with as many new and exciting opportunities as possible, some of which we hope will help set them up for life after St Anne's.
