Remember Rufus has been set up in memory of our beautiful firstborn son, Rufus Harry Jude Key, who was stillborn on 11th October 2020 due to a silent placenta abruption at 39 weeks gestation. Following Rufus' birth, we were able to spend 6 unforgettable days with our son thanks to having access to a Cuddle Cot. During this time we were able to do many of the 'firsts' we had dreamt of with our boy including bath time, his first walk, meeting his grandparents and story. The memories we created are etched in our minds and have helped us immeasurably in our grief process. Our aim is to make sure every parent who faces the devastating reality of losing a child has access to this fantastic equipment which allows families to take time making memories with their precious baby(ies) in a private setting within the hospital, hospice or at even at home. Those extra hours and days can mean wider family members are also able to say goodbye. Without a cuddle cot, a bereaved family will typically only have 10-12 hours with their little one before they are taken away. Many studies have shown that increasing the amount of time parents have with their child(ren) will assist them with processing the mental and emotional difficulties of losing a child. No amount of time will ever be enough, but allowing parents the flexibility and control of managing their final goodbyes in the way that feels best for them is something that all families deserve.

Story

The charity Remember Rufus was set up by one of our current Baby Sensory families in memory of their first born son Rufus who was sadly still born in October 2020. They raise funds to help provide NHS trusts across England and Wales with equipment and facilities that can have a huge impact on the quality of care and support that can be offered to bereaved families in their darkest hours.

I first met Rufus' family and became aware of all the amazing things they have achieved, when Rufus' younger brother Aldous attended my classes. The story of Peter Pan holds special meaning to Rufus which inspired our 'Peter Pan, Pirates & Pixies' sessions back in 2022 which raised just over £1900 and enabled Remember Rufus to provide Rugby Childrens Community Palliative Care Team with a CuddleCot, allowing local families the gift of time to say the hardest goodbye. Remember Rufus has been able to donate an amazing 31 CuddleCots to date.

Currently Rufus' youngest brother Orson is attending classes with us and Ceri, Rufus' amazing mum, is involved in a huge project helping to plan and fundraise for a much needed bereavement suite at Coventry Hospital to support local families who find themselves in the most devastating situation. We are running the fabulous 'Peter Pan, Pirates & Pixies' sessions again this year where all ticket and raffle proceeds will go towards helping Remember Rufus with their mission to support those who don't get to bring their precious babies home.

If you cannot make it to one of our Baby Sensory 'Peter Pan, Pirates & Pixies' sessions but would like to support us you can donate here!

It would be amazing if we could smash our 2022 total of £1904!

(Ticket & raffle proceeds will be added after all the sessions have been completed on 1/5/2024)

Thank you so much for all your support!
