Story
Hey, its lauren!
As many of you are aware, my best friend who is also my flat mate has been diagnosed with cancer on the 13th of january.
We are jumping out of a plane to raise money for this amazing charity who have supported her throughout and took the pressure of me a lil bit ;) (cos you all know its normally all about me )
here is her story:
hey all, its Domi here!!
On the 13th of January 2024 i was diagnosed with a very rare form of womb cancer called Choriocarcinoma, after 6 months of being unwell, and here is my story.
In august 2023, i was told i had a missed miscarriage. This then passed naturally, and i did not think anything else of it. The following weeks i have started to become really unwell, vomiting blood, back pains, sleeping 20+ a day, and bleeding very heavily.
It wasn't untill november 2023, i went back to my gynaecology unit and i was diagnosed with something called a complete molar pregnancy.
This happens when a woman releases a egg with no DNA, and one or two sperms fertilise the egg, however no baby actually forms, and all that's there is a empty sack.
What has happened is my body did not recognise i wasn't actually pregnant, so my placenta began to grow as if there was a pregnancy there. This then started to mutate into cells that basically should not be there.
After an operation in November, i again thought my life will be back to normal and did not think anything of it.
It wasn't until new years eve 2023, i began to be again really unwell, and on the 4th of January i caught chest and abdominal sepsis.
The operation didn't get rid of everything, and my placenta cells have already mutated into a tumour.
I was hours away from dying, and the paramedics told me if i went to sleep that evening i would not of woken up.
After spending days in a hospital, my tumour markers and HCG levels were sky high, and i was immediately transferred to Charing Cross Hospital, where i was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in my womb and embedded itself into the lining of my womb, and also a bit of it that has spread into my lung, and was commenced on chemotherapy.
I am lucky in a sense that this is 90% curable, however it is so rare it happens in only 1 in 50:000 pregnancies, so to come to terms with it has been extremely difficult.
I am currently just over half way through my treatment, and at the moment everything is looking up and its working :)
Ive always been very open with my story, and the effects it has on me, on my life, personal life, financial life, since the diagnosis. I was just a normal 28 year old girl living her version of best life, and its hard to put into words how quickly that changes when you hear that dreaded "cancer" word.
MacMillan have been a amazing support in my journey, from the beginning, and i couldn't think of any other way to thank them than to raise money for the amazing job that they are doing.
I want to thank everyone in advance that has donated, it means the world!
Lots of love
