Story
Orchestra members, chorus members, and staff from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra are running either 10k or a Half Marathon in the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run on 3rd May 2026 to raise money for our orchestra.
I am also running to to celebrate my (and my wife’s) 40th year of singing with CBSO Chorus. I’m not a runner but have always been a keen walker, and I’ve always been tempted to try a 10k or similar, so the opportunity to do one with friends and colleagues from the CBSO encouraged me to take the plunge. Another spur to doing this was the unexpected shock and sadness of losing a very dear friend last year, once a member of the chorus, many years ago. I shall be thinking of her, and the many other chorus members who have contributed so much over the years and are now longer no longer singing with us.
The CBSO plays a vital role in Birmingham’s cultural life — bringing world-class music to the city, inspiring young people through education projects, and making music accessible to communities across the region.
By supporting this run, you’re helping to ensure that live orchestral music continues to thrive in Birmingham, supporting musicians, performers, and the work we do both on and off the concert stage.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a real difference. Thank you so much for supporting the CBSO and cheering us on as we take on the challenge!
