Story
In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon with Dementia UK, in honour of my grandfather, who passed away in 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer’s doesn’t just take memories - it takes moments, personalities and relationships. It’s a slow goodbye that no family should have to go through alone. Watching my grandfather forget who we were and become a stranger to the life he built was devastating.
I’m running to honour him — to carry his memory forward with every mile. I’m running for the love we shared and for all the families out there facing the same heartbreak.
I’ve chosen to support Dementia UK, who offer specialist support to families through their incredible Admiral Nurses. Their work brings hope, comfort, and care in the moments when it’s needed most.
If you’re able to, please donate. Every step I take is for him - and for everyone still fighting this cruel disease.
Thank you,
Layla 🤍
