Story
Hello! My name is Layla and I am trying to raise some money for Diabetes UK! My inspiration for doing this is to show my support to my good friend, Rafe. He is incredibly brave and I am so very proud of him. I am hoping to raise money for Diabetes UK and would really appreciate your support 😊
There are a few ways you can support me in raising the funds, the first is that you can of course donate to my just giving page if you are able to 🩷
The second is "guess the number of pirate treasure" which is £1 per guess and you will win the treasure along with a prize! If you go to my school you can do this by visiting the school office! 🩷
The final way you can support me is to donate a toy or item of clothing that's in good condition for me to sell on eBay! I will be selling some of my own items and all the money I make from selling on eBay will go to Diabetes UK! 🩷
A little paragraph from Rafe and his family... 💞
Rafe was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in August 2024. Type 1 diabetes means that your pancreas doesn’t make something called insulin. Insulin helps our food turn into energy. Without it, sugar (glucose) builds up in the blood instead of giving the body energy.
Rafe’s day-to-day life with Type 1 Diabetes involves constant care and attention. He checks his blood sugar levels multiple times a day using his sensor & finger pricks. All carbs are counted for everything he eats, to determine how many units of insulin he needs with anything he eats.
Rafe always needs to be mindful of his glucose levels, keeping snacks handy to prevent dangerous lows. The children in his class will know when he needs a biscuit as they hear is alarm going off 😀
Despite these challenges, Rafe faces it all with courage and positivity, proving that Type 1 Diabetes doesn’t define him—it’s just part of his journey!
Diabetes is his superpower!
