Esme's Umbrella is the charity dedicated to adults and children who develop Charles Bonnet Syndrome after sight loss. The condition causes vivid, silent, visual hallucinations but is not a mental health condition. We raise awareness, create ways to support those who develop CBS and inspire research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Charles Bonnet Syndrome is surprisingly common and may affect up to 50% of people with visual loss. It can also be terrifying and has a huge impact on quality of life. There is no cure and the current treatment options are very limited. I am happy to support Esme’s Umbrella in its work to raise awareness of this debilitating condition.” This syndrome causes very terrifying hallucinations that can be very unsettling and very frightening for the sufferer. Understanding the syndrome can help those affected cope with their experiences. I’m doing this because I hold this charity very close to my heart. Unfortunately My Nan struggled so bravely with Charles Bonnet syndrome, and watching her face those challenges broke my heart. Even though I know she’s now at peace, I miss her more than words can ever say. I miss her warmth, her laughter, and the special moments we shared that shaped who I am. Life feels a little emptier without her here, but I carry her love and memory with me always, and I hope she knows how deeply she is missed and cherished.
