We are a small charity run entirely by volunteers in the UK. We focus on a remote rural area of Kenya called Kipkelion. It’s a mountainous and somewhat neglected region with about 300,000 inhabitants, most of whom live by subsistence farming. Many people in Kipkelion live miles from the nearest hospital, and most schools are poorly equipped. We work in partnership with a locally based Kenyan NGO to provide clean water and sanitation in schools in Kipkelion, to ensure that pupils (especially girls) can attend school regularly. We also provide resources to bring basic medical facilities to the remote areas of the region, in collaboration with local health officials. We are also active in encouraging the local people in their efforts to eradicate FGM in the area. All of our work is done in partnership with the local community and is guided by their decisions as to their priorities, so that all of our projects are designed to be completely sustainable and of permanent benefit to the community.

Story

In Kenya, young people and those with disabilities find it hard to get a job. Friends of Kipkelion is running a basic business training course to show them how to use their skills to make a living. A donation of £380 plus Gift Aid will be enough to train a group of 15 people. We'll also give them some initial trading stock - coffee seeds, chicken coops, a beehive - to get them started!
