We are fundraising for three incredible charities that are all close to our hearts and with which many of us have a direct personal connection. St David's Hospice Care continues to provide a vital lifeline those diagnosed with terminal illnesses and their families. Sam lost his twin brother to cancer and St David's provided Palliative Care and support to his young family:

My twin brother was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer, recovered incredibly well through sheer determination and an unbending will to beat the disease, until it came back two years after remission, with devastating effect. He recovered so well after his initial diagnosis that the NHS asked him to mentor young people with cancer. When the disease returned, he was given weeks to live, and his treatment was stopped given his prognosis and limited life expectancy. Despite this, he never gave up fighting with the support of St David’s Hospice Care, his local Cancer Hospice, who provided incredible Palliative care so that he could spend what time he had left with his family at home. It is only as a result of the incredible support that charities like this provide, that those with terminal conditions can spend their final days in the care of their families with dignity in familiar surroundings with a 24hr hour service to cater for their needs, in particular the administration of pain relief. My brother knew all of the Hospice staff intimately and insisted on hosting and baking for them, despite his rapidly deteriorating condition. As a result of their care and dedication Jeremy lived well beyond his Doctor’s prognosis and was able to spend that time creating memories with his young family and planning for the time when he would no longer be there for his wife and children.

These are some of the reasons that drive us all to help those that need our help the most and to do our utmost that others will have the benefit of the amazing support St David's Hospice Care provide when life throws out these challenges. We cannot tell you that the causes that we are fundraising for are any more important that any of the other amazing causes that you may be asked to support. However, what we can promise you is that your donations, however large or small, WILL make a real difference to those who need our help the most.

Since we began this journey we have raised over £175,000 for GOSH and St David’s Hospice Care in 8 years and cycled nearly 3,500 miles through France, over the Pyrenees and across Spain into Portugal. We start again on 30th April where we left off last year in Lisbon in Portugal, in the hope that we can get close to an ambitious target of £200,000 by the time we get to Lagos on 3rd May.

These causes are all particularly personal to us as a team, but we know that these amazing charities cannot provide the vital support to terminal conditions and their families without your support.
