Livery Food Initiative - individual donations
In our first year we raised £190,000 to keep a van on the road for three years. Our second goal was to raise £270,000 to keep a 7-ton truck on the road for three years. The Livery Food Initiative's final target is to raise £120,000 to support City Harvest’s new site at New Covent Garden Market, Nine Elms. The funds will support City Harvest's staff, rent, and rates at NCGM, solidifying their market presence. Most of our funding comes from Livery Company Charitable Funds. This page is for individual donations.
In April a group of LFI supporters visited City Harvest at New Covent Garden Market and heard about the work of City Harvest from some of their beneficiaries.
We are all very aware of the contrast between the wealth within the City Livery Companies and food poverty in nearby areas. Food banks and other charities are facing a decrease in donations at a time when the need is increasing exponentially.
The Livery Food Initiative was launched by the Livery Charity Chairs Group (LCCG) in December 2022. We are seeking funding to increase the volume of surplus food able to be redistributed by City Harvest to other charities in London. Given the deepening crisis, LCCG is asking for contributions from all those within the Livery movement.
The need is huge and increasing as CEO Sarah Calcutt describes in this very short video. From this you will see that City Harvest is facing a rapid decline in the food that had been available and is constantly needing to adapt. Regulations mean food suppliers are having to become more efficient and reduce food surpluses.
