Story
In August 2024, my life changed in an instant..
I was involved in a serious motorbike accident that very nearly cost me my life. I spent a total of three months in hospital, some of that time in the Regional Intensive Care Unit (RICU) in Belfast, followed by the Major Trauma Unit. The care I received there was nothing short of extraordinary. During the most frightening time for both me and my family, the RICU team showed incredible skill, compassion, and dedication — and without them, I simply wouldn’t be here today.
The injuries were extensive - multiple fractures (my wrist, femur, ribs, pelvis and back), intubation to support my lungs, and later pulmonary embolisms that brought me close to the edge again.
Despite multiple surgeries, my recovery is still ongoing to this day. I’ve had to learn how to walk again, and I continue to attend hospital every week for treatment and rehabilitation. It’s been a long and challenging journey, but one that has given me a deep appreciation for the vital role that intensive care services play, not just in saving lives, but in helping people rebuild them.
That’s why I’m fundraising for REVIVE, the charity that supports the work of the Regional Intensive Care Unit in Belfast. RICU admits over 2,000 critically ill patients every year, caring for them and their families at the most difficult moments of their lives. Funds raised through REVIVE help support patient care, improve facilities, and provide additional support when it’s needed most.
To raise money for this incredible cause, I’m organising a series of events in May 2026, including a motorbike ride out and family fun day on 17th May, followed by a pub quiz on another date. These events are about bringing people together, raising awareness, and giving something back to the team that gave me a second chance at life.
Any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference and help support the life-saving work of RICU.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for supporting REVIVE.
