Leah's Marathon fundraiser for H.E.A.T. Foundation

Leah Lewis is raising money for H.E.A.T. Foundation

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

Our charity was set up in 2005 by Umar Shariff our CEO & Founder after visiting India in 2003 and later following the floods in Pakistan in 2006, seeing the sheer poverty in the area with lack of education without any hope for the future. HEAT aim was to provide education and to keep these venerable children away from child labour market

Story

This April I am running the London Marathon (eek) to raise money for H.E.A.T. Foundation. H.E.A.T is a small charity that holds a very special place in my heart. It supports children in both Pakistan and India by giving them access to education, essential resources and opportunities they would otherwise never have. I’ve been involved with H.E.A.T. for many years, and in March 2022 I had the privilege of travelling to Pakistan to see the impact of their work first-hand.

One of the schools I visited was Spring Public School, where H.E.A.T. funds the students’ fees and provides essentials such as books, uniforms and other urgent equipment such as a generator for a school of more than 400 children. The students I met here were incredibly dedicated, grateful, and full of potential. Seeing their determination to learn is something I will never forget, I remember children of 6 years old telling me of their dreams to be doctors, pilots and lawyers.

The charity’s story began in Vaniyambadi, India, where it helped build the very first school in a community that previously had none. Over time, this school has educated 534 boys and girls — 80% of whom would not have been in education otherwise. Today the school continues to provide education to more than 250 children of all ages.

H.E.A.T. has expanded its support in Pakistan in response to the devastating floods, which claimed thousands of lives, damaged more than 200,000 homes and caused widespread agricultural loss. They provide essential food parcels and money to the flood victims. The long-lasting impact on families makes the charity’s work more vital than ever.

The reason I am so passionate about raising money for H.E.A.T. is not only because of the amazing work they do but also because it is a small charity with no admin costs. That means 100% of every donation goes directly to the children and the projects. With no marketing budget or corporate sponsorship, the foundation relies entirely on fundraisers and generous supporters (like you!) to continue its life-changing work.

If you’re able to, please donate whatever you can. Every contribution big or small makes a real difference to a child’s future. Thank you so much for your support. 💛
